SM City Baliuag bags energy efficiency award

Present during the awards night were DEAEEA’s Chair Engr. Bernard Pacia, DOE Usec. Loreta Ayson, DOE Sec. Jose Rene Almendras, SM City Baliwag’s Arch. Andrew Cristobal, Engr. Teddy Mueca, SM’s Regional Operations Manager, SM’s Senior Vice President for Engineering and Engr. Teodoro Bautist, SM Supermall’s Vice President for Engineering.



The 2011 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards (DEAEEA) recently granted an Outstanding Award to SM City Baliwag’s remarkable achievements in energy management and conservation efforts.

With the implementation of energy efficiency measures like the Equipment Optimization Program focused on the improvement of lighting and all Air Conditioning components, the mall achieved a significant 9.90% in Percent Energy Conservation (PECO) rating. SM City Baliwag garnered an energy savings of 319,360 liters of oil equivalent (LOE) or a monetary equivalent of PhP 12,646,656.00 and 513,912.64 kg of avoided carbon dioxide.

Likewise, other SM Supermalls branches including SM North Edsa, SM Supercenter Valenzuela, SM City Cagayan de Oro, SM City Rosales, SM City Sta. Rosa, SM City Sucat, SM City Sta. Mesa, SM City Cebu, SM City Clark and SM City Dasmariñas received top honors and citations during the 2011 DEAEEA.

Sponsored by the Department of Energy, the DEAEEA Outstanding Award is given to a company which has considerably improved its energy performance by at least five percent (5%) in its Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) based on previous year and supported by substantial energy efficiency and conservation programs.
